University of North Texas Chosen to Host NABEF Media Sales Institute

--Diversity outreach program expanded to third university--

WASHINGTON, DC -The National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation (NABEF) announced today that it will launch a third Media Sales Institute (MSI) at the University of North Texas in June. The MSI will be held at the Center for Spanish Language Media at UNT.

The NABEF/UNT Media Sales Institute is modeled on the NABEF/Howard University Media Sales Institute which was created in 2001 for the express purpose of increasing the number of women and people of color in media sales. The Institute, which accepts roughly 30 top students from around the country, is held annually at Howard University in Washington, DC.

"The NAB Media Sales Institute has a proven track record of preparing aspiring media sales professionals for jobs in broadcasting," said NAB President and CEO David K. Rehr. "We are pleased to host this program at UNT's Center for Spanish Language Media, which will encourage talented Hispanic graduates to begin a promising career in media sales."

"The Center for Spanish Language Media at the University of North Texas is pleased to have the opportunity to expand the successful NABEF Media Sales Institute to our campus beginning in 2007. We look forward to a productive relationship with the NABEF as we help to train more young people for careers in the dynamic field of media sales," said Dr. Alan B. Albarran, director of the Center for Spanish Language Media.

ZGS Communications President Ron Gordan, who also serves as president of the Independent Spanish Broadcasters Association said: "ISBA is excited about the NAB program at the University of North Texas to train recent college graduates in Spanish language broadcast sales. With the emphasis on Spanish language broadcasting at the University of North Texas, the NAB is directly addressing the needs of the fastest growing segment of the broadcast community: Spanish language television and radio."

The Media Sales Institute is a 10-day training program for recent college graduates who are interested in careers in media sales. The Institute provides instruction in broadcasting, Internet and cable sales, and enables students to make presentations to media recruiting companies looking to fill positions. As a result of this curriculum design, close to 90 percent of the students are hired following graduation.
