NAB Education Foundation to Honor FedEx with Corporate Leadership Award

WASHINGTON, D.C.-- The NAB Education Foundation (NABEF) will present its Corporate Leadership Award to FedEx during the 19th annual Celebration of Service to America Awards, held Tuesday, June 20 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C. Each year, the Corporate Leadership Award is given to a business outside of the broadcast industry that exemplifies an extraordinary focus on community service and corporate social responsibility.

FedEx provides customers and businesses worldwide with a broad portfolio of transportation, e-commerce and business services. With an annual revenue of $58 billion, the company employs more than 400,000 employees across the globe, handles an average of 13 million shipments each business day and serves more than 220 countries and territories.

FedEx Cares is the platform the company uses to invest in communities around the world. It applies the strength of the FedEx network, team members and resources to connect people globally with opportunities to thrive. In support of these efforts, FedEx has committed to investing $200 million in more than 200 communities by 2020.

A key component of the FedEx Cares platform is the company’s focus on “Delivering for Good.” With its global fleet and shipping expertise, FedEx is uniquely prepared to provide relief organizations with urgently-needed supplies quickly and efficiently in times of emergency. The company donated funds and charitable shipping to the American Red Cross as they responded to 190 large disasters in the U.S. in 2016. FedEx has also worked with Direct Relief for more than a decade and assisted the aid organization with delivering over 35,000 pounds of medicine and other supplies to Haiti after the devastating impact of Hurricane Matthew in 2016. Also, FedEx has partnered with the United Services Organization (USO) as its primary shipper for 15 years, ensuring the delivery of thousands of care packages each year to service men, women and their families.

“Through its emergency aid and services that cultivate global business, sustainability and education, FedEx works tirelessly to improve lives in communities around the world,” said NABEF President Marcellus Alexander. “We are pleased to honor FedEx for its continued advancement of commerce and opportunity at home and abroad.”

In addition to donating the use of its network for important causes, FedEx also focuses its community investments in four areas core to its business: Road Safety, Global Entrepreneurship, Sustainable Transportation and Employment Pathways. FedEx leads numerous global initiatives within those areas, including a global road safety awareness campaign that reaches students in 10 countries, an incubator for women entrepreneurs in Latin America, a program to make transportation more environmentally friendly in developing markets, and a workforce development initiative that aims to connect thousands of youth with meaningful employment opportunities in the United States.

FedEx also fosters a culture of giving back. During the 2016 FedEx Cares United Way campaign, employees donated more than $12 million to charitable organizations and volunteered 90,000+ hours to more than 510 projects.
